Mills Violano Lubrication & Wiring
By John Kadlec

I have three questions regarding the Mills Violano:

1. What is the most correct modern lubricant to use in place of the
original "Russian Oil" supplied by Mills Novelty Co.?

2. The risk of electric shock was introduced by Mills having provided
a direct connection from one of the AC mains lines to the DC output
of the converter. What was the purpose of this connection? Is this
connection necessary? If this connection was removed, would not the
risk of electric be eliminated or reduced?

3. What is the correct type of wire to be used for replacing worn
brushes in the feeder frame?

All comments and help appreciated.

John Kadlec

[ The input and output ports of the Mills AC/DC Rotary Converter
[ are inherently electrically connected and cannot be disconnected.
 [ See http://www.mmdigest.com/Gallery/Tech/Mills/rotary.html
[ An external 120-to-120 VAC isolation transformer can be used to
[ isolate the complete Violano system from the mains supply and so
[ permit a "green wire" safety ground to be attached to the player
 [ system. -- Robbie
