Seek Pressure & Vacuum Pump Units for Calliope
By Gene Calman
I recently acquired a Tangley CA-43 Calliaphone, serial 1373,
manufacture date 1926, and supposedly owned by Hagenbeck-Wallace
circus. It was mounted on a 1915 White truck which is in need of
total rebuild but most of the parts seem to be there and it is still
available. I bought the Tangley separately because I already have
a 1927 Graham Bros. truck which has been restored and is entirely
suitable for the job and doesn't have hard rubber tires.
The Tangley was restored about 40 years ago and was only used once
and was powered by a canister turbine unit. It appears to be in good
shape and the whistles all operate okay except the keys stick. I was
not able to test the roll player because of the lack of vacuum.
The unit does not have a power supply and I am enquiring to seek some
advice on how to power it without the expense of a Roots blower. If
anyone out there can give me any advice I would certainly be happy.
It also has 16 rolls with it and some appear to be duplicates which
will be available for sale or trade. It won't be delivered until after
Christmas.
