Replacing "Perflex" Pouches in Universal Players
By Bill Maguire

As a player piano technician , John Omiatek has been a great resource
for help on these. John will spend the time And educate people like
myself. John gave me the "heads up" to watch out for failing Perflex
pouches on some of these. I used what I thought was some very thin
flexible "zephyr skin" (sheep intestine.) I bench tested the player the
job was successful overall. It is a small pouch. The Zephir skin is
more stiff and not as flexible as the latex rubber like material
originally used. When I apply suction initially some valves leak and
it takes a few seconds for these valves to seat. But once these valves
are seated they function great. I also used neatsfoot oil and worked
it into the pouches to make them more flexible like a new baseball mitt.

Does anyone else have any experience with this job and wants to share it ?
