Hi everybody -- Does anyone know about the Primotone music box?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0c2xXCVy-I
It is produced in Japan by Brother Industries Inc. and sold by Xing
Inc. It plays 300 melodies using an SD memory card.
I'm curious about the mechanics of how this music box works, and
also about its old-fashioned look. It seams to use a real comb with
star wheels. Is it driven by as many solenoids or motors as the
number of teeth? Can you help?
Best regards,
Jean Nimal

[ I have had some recent communication with a US markting agency for
[ this product in July. It arrived as "SPAM" but I was fascinated and
[ carried out a conversation with the sender. I don't know if
[ the person I corresponded with is still involved with this poduct
[ but his YouTube video in English and his website are gone.
[
[ I asked some questions about the device. The answers __may__ be
[ correct:
[
[ 1. It will be available in the US market early next year. The current
[ model is a Japanese version and we are preparing US version model now.
[
[ 2. Customers cannot arrange their own tunes. However, it will be
[ considered so that it will be possible to arrange.
[
[ 3. Yes, we have plans to build this design with larger combs.
[
[ 4. The price of the current model in Japan is Jap. Yen 630,000 which
[ is nearly US$6,200.00.

[
[ The price, if correct, is out of my budget, but I am fascinated with
[ the design. It appears to use solenoids to extend resettable pins in a
[ rotating mechanism which simulates the pins on the cylinder of
[ a music box. The pins appear to interact with traditional star
[ wheels and a traditional comb.
[
[ I look forward to hearing more about this device. --Jody
