Roll Scanning & E-valves Discussion Groups

Thank you, Walter, for this reference to both sites. Both are alive
but have been somewhat dormant in recent months. However, the flow of
discussions, and companion files over the years, remain valid today.

In addition to the above links, those interested in roll scanning
might wish to visit my personal site where they will find everything
needed to build their own roll scanner. See

  http://members.shaw.ca/smythe/rebirth.htm

There is a caveat -- the MIDI output from my scanner design works quite
well with solenoid actuated pianos, but the CIS (*.cis) scan files are
not sufficiently accurate for quality recuts. What is needed is a MK4
type roll scanner such as those designed and built by Larry Doe. These
have highly accurate roll transport mechanisms. See

  http://members.shaw.ca/smythe/MK4.htm

I understand that at least eight of these hi-end roll scanners are out
there within our community. For those interested in continuing with
this worthwhile endeavor, perhaps one or two of them might now be
available.

Regards,
Terry Smythe
