I rescued the solenoid valves from a beat-up Wurlitzer amplified
reed organ that was in production only a few years. In spite of the
keyboard being connected electrically to the valve controlling the air
to the reed, the response was slow. This is frustrating to the person
trying to render a triplet. Somehow when reeds are played from a roll
the slow response isn't objectionable.
I have a drawer full of probably 150 valves. Most of them are ganged
in groups of six, with each coil having a capacitor of 0.1 microfarad,
200 volts DC rating. There are quite a number of single solenoids.
Before we removed all the components the notes were tested and they
played. I have no use for them and will donate them to anyone who
could use them.
The 15-inch loudspeakers were the same as those used in some of the
juke boxes which were sought after by collectors. This same Wurlitzer
reed organ had a blower that ran continuously. It is very silent and
well made. I saved it, but I sold the harmonium (Alexander & fils)
so I have no use for it.
