Dear everyone! I am a volunteer at the Pianola Museum in Amsterdam,
the Netherlands. A while ago we started organizing "karaoke" evenings
there: people sing along with the player piano, using the word rolls
from the collection. It's great fun.
We are now looking to see if it would be possible to create new rolls
ourselves, since we only have a limited amount of word rolls of songs
people know and like to sing. Our plan is to make song arrangements
ourselves in MIDI format on the [electronic] keyboard, and then convert
that file to a vector drawing file that can be printed on pianola rolls
at a local "makerspace" that own a laser cutting machine called "Trotec
Speedy 100".
However, we don't currently have the software to convert a MIDI
file to a printable file format, which would preferably be a vector
drawing made in Inkscape (SVG) or Illustrator (CS6 or older). I am
hoping anyone on this list would have any knowledge on how to do this,
or where to find people who could help us develop such software.
General advice or commentary on the overall feasibility of this plan
(or proposals for more practical alternatives) are also most welcome.
Hope you can help!
Thanks,
Julie Blussé
