Dating the Tunes on a Molinari Barrel Organ
By Matthew Caulfield

Angelo Rulli says in yesterday's MMD that he is trying to research (or
date) tunes on a Molinari organ. He poses six questions that he needs
answers to. But I can't for the life of me figure out how most of the
questions will advance his solution to the problem.

I have spent thousands of hours in trying to identify tunes on
Wurlitzer band organ rolls. It is always most helpful if I already
know one or two tunes on a roll because that helps to place the roll's
creation in a particular time period, which not only eliminates later
tunes from consideration but can help zero in on tunes from the same
year or immediately preceding years.

But Angelo's questions do not seem to lead to any solution, and
question 6, how to listen to such tunes, is particularly baffling.
 What am I missing here?

I have found that sending recordings of tunes that I need help with to
phonograph record collectors can lead to answers, as can putting them
out on the Internet.
