"Nef" Musical Automaton in the Form of a Ship
By Julie Porter

Members of the MBSI 50th tour were able to see up close the Nef in
the British Museum. Later, in Utrecht, Dr. Haspels demonstrated the
copy his workshop had constructed from the surviving examples. It
was quite impressive. I do remember that it had a gun that went off
as part of its performance.

I never did get the Ord-Hume book as I had other interests. I did
get Dr. Haspels' book on the Utrecht collection which I still have.
