Seek Wurlitzer Style 165 Roll of "Wizard of Oz"
By Dave Vincent
The "Wizard of Oz" medley was commissioned by Don Stinson, as I am
told, from Art Reblitz. I do know that the medley was arranged for
the standard 165 scale originally, because I remember it being played
in the mid-1980s on one of the first batch of Stinson 165 organs owned
by Robert Kirshner, a co-worker of mine. That organ has never been
converted to the extended 165 scale.
The original rolls probably were punched by Play-Rite, because Mike
Grant didn't purchase his perforator until 1989 or 1990, and it was
several years after that that he had a new punch and die made that
enabled him to produce 165 rolls. I don't know if Grant ever cut any
of those "Stinson only" rolls in later years.
Don has relaxed the limited distribution of some of his music in
recent years. Perhaps contacting Messrs. Reblitz, Grant or Stinson
would be productive.
