Organ Rally 22-24 August in Cooperstown, New York
By Wallace Venable
This weekend COAA (the Carousel Organ Association of America) will hold
a rally at The Farmers' Museum in Cooperstown, New York. The weather
should be better than when we last visited there a few years ago in
late September. The larger organs expected to attend include:
- Roger Wiegand and "The Diamond Jubilee Gavioli", a well rebuilt
89-key instrument;
- John Ravert with his Page & Howard "DeWitte" playing a 90-key
Carl Frei scale and some Carl Frei books;
- Dave & Darlene Wasson's "Trudy", the 98-key Wasson Concert Organ;
- "Just Plain Bill" McCleary's "King William" Stinson 2000,
a big organ with two accordions;
- Peter & Jill Hallock's 1905 Bruder 56-key converted to Wurlitzer rolls;
- Terry & Pat Fitch's North Tonawanda 184;
- Eddie & Bernice Evarts' 2009 Stinson 58-M 78-key, a mid-sized
Wurlitzer descendant;
- Burl Updyke "Updyke Military Band Organ" 41-key, that started as a
"Wurlitzer 105 homebuild" but now enlarged in scale;
- Michael & Debbie Falco's Handcrafted Wurlitzer 105 style Super 105/51;
- Bob Buckler's 1930 Wurlitzer 105 in park paint with folk decals,
a historic display which still works!
On the crank organ side we are expecting to see:
- Tim Wagner's "Finster Baby" from Der Orgelbau in Wienerwald,
a 20-note busker organ
- Craig & Kathay Smith are bringing two 1930 Molinari crank organs;
- Aliyah Luccitti and a 2001 Castlewood 20-key;
- Paul Senger with his John Smith busker;
- Bob Buckler's Pell 31-key;
- "Sweetie Pie" McCleary's Raffin R20/31;
- Dan Wilke's 1986 Hofbauer 20-note crank organ;
- Tom, Billy & Margaret & Victoria Odell are bringing a 1986 Hofbauer
20-note crank organ;
- Greg & Linda Swanson with a Hofbauer 20-note crank organ;
- Norma and I are bringing "Epona", a 20-note OSI center section
expanded as a 32-note MIDI organ with glockenspiel and percussion.
The Farmers' Museum is home to the New York State Carousel which has
a Wurlitzer 165 roll-playing Stinson. This is a great location where
we can stroll in a historic village setting as well as hearing music.
