Passing of Robert "Bob" Streicher, Machinist
By Bob Taylor
Many important people have passed in our field of mechanical music.
But until now, none have impacted me more than Bob Streicher.
Hearing his thick Brooklyn accent on the phone was always the best part
of our phone conversations. Beside our mechanical music connection, he
often related his aviation background to me, which I thoroughly
enjoyed.
Bob never charged an amount that reflected the true value of his work.
His modest charges were almost an embarrassment. Anyone who owns the
Podolsky rolls produced by Chicago AMICA should know that Bob Streicher
made the editing desk with the precision punch dies that made it
possible to code those rolls.
Rest in Peace, dear friend.
