Wurlitzer Band Organ Scales are 100 Years Old
By Andy Park
Hi MMDers, Did you all know that the Wurlitzer Style 165 format and
the standardization of Wurlitzer roll formats is celebrating it's
100th year? Think of 1914. World War One prevented Wurlitzer and
Berni from importing band organs from Germany, Belgium or France.
This is when Wurlitzer had made a milestone decision to change the
standardization to the current one, with three different roll types:
Styles 125, 150, and the 165. Actually, the Style 165 is based on
the Gebrüder 65-key "Elite Orchestra Apollo."
So, happy ironic 100th birthday to the complete standardization and
the introduction to the Wurlitzer Style 165 band organ! Oh, and play
"Happy Birthday" on roll 6844 for me!
