I read with interest Ed Gaida's remarks about buying rolls on eBay
and having them shipped to the UK [140530 MMDigest]. It is a sad
fact that sometimes what we believe has happened and what has
actually happened is not necessarily the same.
I did post a few months ago with regards a purchase that I had made
on eBay which was not honoured (mentioning no names) and at the time
I had no idea that it was from Ed. The fact of the matter is that
the listing was made on eBay UK and no mention was made of sales only
to the USA. Indeed, the invoice from eBay even included a shipping
charge.
I can fully understand the difficulties that he is having from
his small local post office but I am glad to report that since my
original postings many other sellers in the U.S. are not having the
same problems with shipping. Indeed, I have recently purchased
a complete "Grieg Piano Concerto" from another subscriber to MMD and
I can honestly say it is the best Ampico roll that I now possess.
I have come to the conclusion that eBay is not the best source of
Ampico rolls for UK residents and that the information displayed
on my screen, here in the UK, is not automatically the same as that
on the seller's screen in the U.S. I might add that I have previously
purchased piano rolls from Ed and the purchase was highly satisfactory
both in service and quality of product.
Perhaps Ed would like to contact me privately with a view to having
the negative comment removed from his Feedback, as now that I know the
full circumstances for refusal to sell I have a somewhat different
view on the transaction.
There are _very_ few Ampico B Pianos in the UK and, as I am as old
as the newest of them, I certainly do not want to cut off the only
supply of rolls available in the UK and hope that Ed could re-consider
supplying to the UK if only on a private basis and not via eBay.
Regards,
Mike Nicholls (UK)
