Duo-Art System Removed From Steinway AR
By Bill Maier

Tony Marsico's experience reminded me of my own. In the 1980s
I bought a Steinway AR from Randolph Herr with the Duo-Art system
removed from it (not by Randolph, of course, who was a collector).
I located a Steinway AR stack and later other parts and slowly
reconstructed the reproducing system with the help of an talented
local AMICA restorer.

What was a big surprise to me was some of the parts were the very
ones gutted from this piano earlier. I guess this goes to prove
modifying a good piano to eliminate the historically significant
components isn't always the best course to take.
