Making Brass Hose Elbows
By D. L. Bullock
So far I have been too lazy to build the jig to make my own Ampico
size elbows. I recently used up my stash of soldered elbows from
Player Piano Company and I had two of them that came apart _after_
shoe-horning the mechanism into the small grand. I could not find out
where the huge gaping leak was until I found the elbow next to the
soundboard that had its miter joint in pieces.
Not only did I have to find two new elbows, but I also had to dismantle
most of the Ampico system in order to get the elbow replaced and the
expression boxes and hoses all shoehorned back into the piano for
testing.
Does anyone know how to do vulcanized molds and spin casting so I can
must cast new metal elbows? I have the equipment but making a mold
that puts a vacancy in the center has me stumped. I would love to cast
the Duo-Art elbows as well as the Ampico ones.
