I have been contacted by a woman in Chelmer, Queensland, Australia,
who said she has a Polyphon upright music box, with several 19-5/8"
discs that she wants to "sell or give" to someone "before (her) husband
takes it to the landfill". She sent me photos, and it is actually a
"Euphonion" which was made by Polyphon and uses standard Polyphon
discs.
The machine appears to have about six broken teeth on the left comb,
and two bent teeth on the right comb. The owner says it has not run
in several years, and needs some repairs, but in the photos it appears
to be intact. The discs are rusty, but could probably be cleaned up
with EvapoRust.
I was hoping I could get this machine shipped to USA but it may be
too costly. So, is there anyone in Australia who might want to check
this out and try to save the old machine from the scrap heap at the
landfill? The case looks dirty but complete, with glass door intact,
and the mechanism is still looking good.
This is a coin-op model with the zig-zag coin chute inside case. If
anyone knows a cheap method to ship such a machine across the pond,
please let me know. Otherwise, maybe someone will want to pick it up
locally in Chelmer, Queensland. Contact me if interested.
