Dear Mike & MMD, I have been doing music roll auctions for over 30
years and have a great many roll customers from across the pond. Even
in the UK. My website is at http://home.earthlink.net/~rollertunes
In the early days, I used to deal a lot with Ampico rolls and the early
roll auctions always had 100 Ampico rolls in them. Today, I don't have
as many.
Shipping rolls around the world has never been a problem for me and I
can say that I have a great many happy customers all over the world.
For shipping to the UK, a 4-pound package, which would hold about one
or at the most two rolls, can go First Class for roughly about $20.00
Four pounds is the maximum First Class package that can be mailed
overseas.
Next I can usually ship 4 or 5 rolls in a Priority medium flat-rate
box for roughly a little under $60.00, I think. I just shipped one to
Australia and it was $61.75. I don't know why Australia is more
expensive, but it is...
Generally I ship 9 or more rolls using the Air Mail "M" bag which
costs about $69.00 to the UK, and each additional roll would cost about
$3.50. The air mail "M" bag is a very slow, low priority type of mail
service and it depends if they have room on the plane whether it goes
quickly or takes many weeks.
My foreign customers usually have not had any problems with customs
on rolls either. I am sure you can ask many of the Player Piano Group
over there and they can give me a good reference. Or I can give you
some names you can contact.
eBay sellers sometimes don't care to deal with foreign customers,
for what ever reasons I am not sure of -- whether it is dealing with
customs, or shipping, or some other reasons. I have worked with
customers who have won from eBay sellers, and have had their rolls
shipped to me and I have packed them in with the rolls they won on my
rolls auctions and shipped them all together in an Air Mail "M" bag.
I hope this information has been helpful to you.
Musically,
Larry Norman -- from the Blue Ridge mountain area where spring is
here and the flowers and trees are loaded with flowers. I'm glad
winter is over, at least I hope so!
