Ed Gaida introduced this subject in MMD 14.03.26 and explained how
Richard Tonnesen was the real intellect behind "The Welte" project.
More than intellect, Richard's company, "Custom Music Rolls" (mutually
operated with his wife Janet), served the roll duplication needs of
this hobby for more than thirty years and of course perforated the
"Red and Green to Licensee" project.
The roll files in many formats of Custom Music Rolls are perhaps the
best archive ever assembled. The Tonnesens provided a service that
was nowhere else available at the same level of quality.
Ed and I did not collaborate, but as luck would have it, earlier
this month I posted a video on YouTube that features one of the Welte
rolls that Ed wrote about. The composition heard on Welte Roll 324,
Hungarian Rhapsody #10, is played by Alfred Reisenauer and is billed
as played imitating Liszt. The roll really shows off the subtle
shadings found on Welte.
I hope Ed finds enough interest to produce these fine cross-over rolls
for the Licensee owners. I bought the complete set when Custom Music
Rolls originally offered them. All are excellent.
