Passing of Irene Hurley, Glen Echo Carousel Lady
By Matthew Caulfield
I just received word of the death this morning of Irene Hurley, who
was for decades the lady in the ticket booth at Glen Echo Park's
1921 Dentzel carousel. I worked on weekends for some ten years or
more with Irene and her son Max Hurley, who was the carousel operator.
The fourth member of the Glen Echo carousel team was Lisa Fahlstrom,
whose daytime job was as a police officer with the Montgomery County
Police Department.
Time marches on, and one by one we drop out of the march. But the
music plays on.
