"Sound Track", The Toy Train With a Tune
By Nicholas Simons

Those familiar with the contents of Kevin McElhone's Organette
Book will have seen the 'Go Go Tunes' car illustrated on page 260.
I own the original and found it back in the 1990s in a local clearance
warehouse. For obvious reasons my children were never allowed to play
with it and it became part of my collection. It comprises a small
plastic, battery operated, car which has eight small switches on the
underside. The tones are generated electronically within the car.

The child or parent can programme any tune by placing the plastic pegs
into the holes in the track. I leave it on display with two short
tunes programmed into a single circuit of the track. It fits nicely
with the more well-known Tomy Choo Choo and Player Piano, both toys
that my children were also not allowed to play with!

The 'Sound Track' concept shown will need some development. I suggest
the addition of a star wheel interface with the track and maybe the
addition of a rack and pinion drive wheel system in order to achieve
sufficient forward force.
