"La SeriNET" No. 89 Mechanical Music Videos
By Jean Nimal
Bonjour to all mechanical music lovers! We try to hunt down
videos for you about mechanical music, and we settle them in the
AAIMM pages of the web site <<Association des Amis des Instruments
et de la Musique Mécanique>>.
As you probably know, it is published in the French magazine:
Musiques Mécaniques Vivantes (MMV). These videos from the No. 89 are
freely available on the web site of the AAIMM: http://www.aaimm.org/
Here is the direct access to more than 50 videos:
http://www.aaimm.org/spip/spip.php?article899
Let's highlight a few videos --
- It's winter. I understand you need to be warmed up! Let's start
with Cuban music: Pello21 using an organ whose specificity is to need
two sources of power (previously men) for music and bellows.
- Listen to a few laternas (small pianos, Turkish and Greek);
Panos Ioannidis should be the last maker known of laternas.
- 3 videos of Wurlitzer harp, Style B, with and without MIDI system.
- 4 enthusiastic videos of Joe Rinaudo's American Photoplayer piano.
- An amazing cabinet secretaire by Roentgen whose video shows a bell
carillon during a quarter-second! Be quick on the "pause" button!
- Quadracoptères play the theme of a James Bond movie. You have not
even had time to dream ... they did! It is a curiosity!
- Full size automatons play tuba and accordion . You will hear
Caravan from Duke Elington. Mickael Buscmann on the drums is a real
joy. We guarantee 7'36" of pleasure!
- Videos showing the inside of a few Roulet-Decamps automatons.
At the end of the article, you will find lots of videos that illustrate
3 articles in the magazine MMV 89. Maybe you have already seen a few
of those videos but I am quite sure you were surprised by some of them!
Help us to hunt for quality videos ... "A video a year ... makes me
a good partner!"
Best wishes from France,
Jean Nimal
