Hi All, from reading Evan Mower's response to the recent posting
on the Wurlitzer 165 recently acquired by Glenn Thomas, I read this:
"I'm looking forward to hearing it again, especially one of my
favorite selections, Midnight Fire Alarm."
Now _that_ got my attention! To my knowledge, "The Midnight Fire
Alarm" is not on a 165 roll besides my recent arrangement of this
song (https://soundcloud.com/mikey-mills/the-midnight-fire-alarm-arr ),
but is it? Does anyone have a copy of this LP, as if this song _does_
exist on a Style 165 music roll, chances are it's from evergreen roll
6504 which is a complete mystery on what is on it. It was produced,
as 6504 is listed on a inventory from the late 1930s or early '40s,
but nobody knows a thing about it.
This would imply that this roll does exist, or pieces of it. Ross
Davis did a somewhat good job on preserving rolls, the exceptions
being the ones that were pieced together. And there are several
rolls that were known to have been owned by him but have disappeared;
there's even an original box to the missing roll 6614, but no roll.
Of course, who am I to judge as I would assume that he would think that
doing this to the rolls would have no negative impact in the future,
as I assume he thought Wurlitzer would keep all the masters -- which
they didn't.
That's beside the point though, if the LP had a printing mistake
putting "The Midnight Fire Alarm" as opposed to another song published
by E.T. Paull such as "Ben Hur Chariot Race" (I've seen the two mixed
up before) that would be a shame. But, if "The Midnight Fire Alarm"
was on a 165 roll, that would be an amazing discovery!
Best regards,
Mikey Mills
