Seek Piano Roll "Tonight You Belong to Me"
By Dave Haibach
Per Lee Rothrock's request in 140120 MMDigest, in my knowledge of
this tune I can say there were two different arrangements named
"Tonight You Belong to Me." The song that was sung by Patience &
Prudence in the 1950s was not the same melody as written and put
to piano roll in the 1920s.
I am not sure if QRS ever issued the latter tune from the 1950s.
The 1926 Imperial Waltz roll of that title (a marimba arrangement,
no less) that I once owned was an entirely different melody.
On refreshing my memory on that tune by watching the Lawrence Welk
video, and actually having purchased the original 45 rpm record in
the 1950's, I can most assuredly say that the 1950s release is the one
Lee is seeking. In my opinion that latter tune indeed was very catchy,
as was the performance of the young girls who performed in the 1950s as
a duet and made it a hit then.
