Hello all; Like Tony Marsico, I have a number of the albums that
Johnny Maddox produced with the title of "The World's Greatest Piano
Rolls" which is the name I remember them by. I haven't looked at them
for years, but, it seems to me that I remember reading on the liner
notes that these were 88-note rolls with a drummer accompanying them
for the recordings.
Mr. Maddox has a Facebook page, and I sent him a "friend request" in
July of 2013, and was accepted. On that page it shows some photos of
Johnny from June of 2013 and one has the caption "Blind Boone Ragtime
& Early Jazz Festival, June 9-11, 2013, Sedalia, Missouri." This same
Facebook page states that Mr. Maddox lives in Gallatin, Tennessee.
The last posting on the page by Johnny is dated 30 August, 2013. It
says, "We are starting to sell Johnny's orchestrations from the 1880s
to 1930s. We have just put the first 10 of these up on eBay. Check
them out at http://myworld.ebay.com/johnnymaddox ".
There are a number of ragtime piano players on Johnny's list of friends
besides myself, and others involving piano music, including but not
limited to Stephanie Trick, Peter Lundberg, Adam Swanson, Fred Finn,
Tom Brier, John Kirin, Terry Smythe, etc.
And, finally, there is documentary of Mr. Maddox released on YouTube
on October 3, 2012, by Adam Swanson. This is very much worth watching:

I would hope that someone can let us know on MMD about the status of
Mr. Maddox.
