In response to Tony Marsico's inquiries concerning Johnny Maddox,
I too was a collector of his records during the 1960s. I had
the privilege of meeting him when he was performing in Great Falls,
Montana, during the mid-1970s. I have a few of his records entitled
"The World's Greatest Piano Rolls", and I also particularly enjoyed
the piano roll rendition of the "Darktown Strutters' Ball".
Over the years I was able to find a copy of that roll. It was actually
performed by "Kortlander and Baxter" on QRS roll number 164 and it
appears to be the complete version of the abbreviated part that is
played on the Johnny Maddox record.
Over the years, QRS seems to have assigned the same catalogue number
"164" to a [newer] different version of the "Darktown Strutters Ball",
which is _not_ the same version. The roll I believe Tony is interested
in is the piano roll which was performed by Max Kortlander (and his
pseudonym, "Ted Baxter").
