UK Aeolian Pipe Organ Locations
By Jon Polden
I read the post on the MMD of 140407 and was surprised to find Hengrave
Hall mentioned as being in Shropshire. It is in fact in Suffolk. But
more interesting to me is that I can find no mention of the Aeolian
organ being at Hengrave Church. (I assume that is where it was moved
to from the Hall.)
Drinkell's "Gazetteer of Organs in Suffolk" lists a Wordsworth (Leeds)
organ from 1896 being in the church; a search of the Suffolk organs
site has no mention of any Aeolian (or Orchestrelle) organs in the
county. I would like to know what happened to the organ.
After a long period as a school run by a religious community, and some
years as a multi-faith centre, Hengrave Hall itself is now privately
owned but available for weddings, etc.
