In answer to Bruce Stevens' question [131219 MMDigest], I was faced
with correcting a wrongly retubed 1926 Weber Half Duo-Art. I decided
to look through all my back bulletins issued by the Player Piano
Group (PPG) and found an excellent tubing diagram in a 1987 bulletin,
without which I doubt I could have done the job with my limited
knowledge of pianolas. I was also given telephone advice by Mike Boyd,
a professional restorer, and other members of the PPG. Thanks to all
this help, I now have an instrument which plays as it should do.
The diagram and accompanying explanation were produced by Julian Dyer,
who did an excellent job of editing the bulletin for many years.
I suggest contacting him through his web site http://pianorolls.co.uk/
after he has recovered from the Christmas festivities. I can vouch
for the excellent quality of his recut Duo-Art rolls for sale and his
article on roll editing is well worth a read.
I am grateful for all those knowledgeable pianola enthusiasts who are
prepared to share their knowledge via the MMD, PPG and other societies
to those of us who need their help from time to time. This is one way
our hobby will be able to continue into the future.
With best wishes for Christmas and happy pedalling in 2014,
Terry Leonard
