Lyle Merithew asked about experience with these new circuit breakers.
The DeBence museum building has a lot of old wiring. One of the
easiest ways to set the place on fire would be a short circuit of low
current, so, to protect the building, several years ago we installed
arc fault circuit breakers in most of our electric panels.
To date we have had no nuisance trips. We did have one trip while
our Coinola K was running, and upon close examination found there was
actually a short in the machine, so the breaker did what it was
supposed to do.
Our vacuum cleaners have not tripped any breakers, and we have an
assortment of 5- to 15-year-old units.
