Hi MMDers, I'm seeking the identity of the musical movement that
plays the current arrangement of the "Mr. Softee" jingle. (Yes, there
is an older version.) Most ice cream trucks have an actual recording
of the movement stored on a chip playing, should the real movement
decide to give up the ghost.
Some trucks do have a real movement with an amplifier to project the
sound louder, but sometimes a couple of teeth are missing, resulting
in dead notes. And the sound is distorted, giving a kind of a "plunk"
instead of a truly ringing tone. If you ever tried putting a magnet
next to a music box comb, you know what that means: out-of-tune, and
distortion. I've tried doing it with "happy birthday," and I laughed
(or cried)!
Here's the MIDI transcription of the current arrangement.
I'm not buying that movement, just doing some research.
Best,
Andy Park
P.S.: I've been trying to tell if it is a real movement for almost
22 years, since when I was one year old! Back then, I'm 99.99% sure.
[ I'll put the MIDI file at the MMD Sounds site in the near future.
