Hi All, My name is John Dousmanis, and I am a member of AMICA, MBSI,
and the Estey Organ Museum. Fellow collector and enthusiast, Bill
Klinger, has been scanning Estey pipe organ rolls (both the earlier
rolls and the later semi-automatic), and has been converting them
to MIDI files. I have sent him about 520 rolls from my collection
that have already been scanned. I can send a list of all the titles.
Does anyone have any Estey rolls that they could make available for
scanning? Are there other owners of Estey rolls that might join in our
effort to locate all Estey rolls and have them scanned into MIDI files?
When we have most or all of the Estey titles completed we plan to start
scanning the Aeolian 116-note pipe organ rolls and then the 58-note
Aeolian Grand/Orchestrelle rolls. There are others who have scanned
176 note Aeolian Duo-Art pipe organ rolls. I've also have had a number
of Welte pipe organ rolls scanned.
By scanning these rolls, we are making them available as MIDI files.
And in doing so we preserve their musical information in digital form,
as the perforated paper rolls will not last much longer. As MIDI
files, future generations will be able to glimpse into the past and
hear this music of a bygone era. If you have any questions please
contact me.
Sincerely,
John Dousmanis
