In reply to the recent (130812) post by Tony Liene: "...looking for
a piano roll of Irving Berlin's 1912 'Ragtime Violin'". Yes, amongst
the thousands of roll titles in the Murtogh D. Guinness Collection at
the Morris Museum is included an original QRS Autograph Hand-Played
88-note of "Ragtime Violin", by Irving Berlin, Key of B-flat, played
by Lee S. Roberts, number 2000030. You can also hear a scanned MIDI
file at http://www.pianorollscans.org/all.html
I'd also like to take the opportunity to remind any MMDer's in the New
York metro region, that the Morris Museum will be closed August 18th
through Sept. 2nd (re-opening Sept. 3rd), and that the new exhibition,
"Rags, Those Beautiful Rags", will run until November 10th, 2013.
This exhibit celebrates the ragtime origins and its difficulty
overcoming the established societal 'norms' of the day, through to the
successful popularization of Ragtime music. The exhibition includes
two dozen examples of rare 19th & 20th century sheet music featuring
eye-catching "Tin Pan Alley" cover artwork, by the likes of William &
Frederick Starmer, André DeTakas, Joseph Hirt, John Frew, Walter
Dittmar, James Dulin, H.T. Slaughter, et al, plus numerous rare
examples of automatic musical instruments, sound stations, with
educational and group programs available by special arrangement, etc.
Thanks,
