Ampico Rolls Played by E. Robert Schmitz
By Bob Taylor

After a quiet dinner I decided to do some serious piano listening.
Being alone at the time I did not have to satisfy anyone else's
musical taste, so I selected rolls by E. Robert Schmitz to be played
on the Mason & Hamlin RBB piano. After several selections, I concluded
that Schmitz's interpretations of Albeniz on the Ampico are nothing
short of exquisite!

Apparently Schmitz did make some audio recordings in later life, but
his early efforts with Edison were a flop. Rumor has it that Thomas
A. Edison tightly controlled the content on his records, and that he
found Schmitz's work not to his taste. After listening to many Edison
recordings, that is no wonder. Edison may have been a great inventor
but his taste was somewhat pedestrian at best.

This fall, I will post some of these Schmitz masterpieces on YouTube.
