To the MMD, A piano tuner friend referred this problem to me. The
piano is an approximately 1972 spinet 'Duo Art' (not a reproducing
player, but 'Duo Art' listed is on the fall board) pneumatic player
piano with a Standard action and electric blower. In the spool box
is an on-off switch. When you push the button, it starts the blower
and is supposed to play the piano on electric play. Right now, the
piano only plays this way if you hold the button in the entire time.
I contacted all known player sources (including Player Piano Parts,
Inc., Wichita, Schaff and others they suggested). No one seems to
currently sell this switch. Player Piano Parts said it was out of
stock and they did not plan to stock it again. I will likely need
to try to rebuild the switch. I haven't gotten into it yet.
Does anyone know a source for this switch? If not, can anyone let
me know what to expect trying to repair it? A photo is available.

[ The problem may be in the electric control logic or with the pallet
[ switch that signals when the paper is not wound upon the take-up
[ spool. Many contemporary player pianos have a set-reset latch (like
[ a lock and cancel latch) that is 'set' (turned on) by the push-button
[ switch, and is 'reset' (switched off) by the take-up spool pallet
[ switch after the roll rewinds completely. Holding the push-button
[ down forces the system to remain 'on'. -- Robbie
