I am pleased to announce the release of two new 88-note rolls of works
by Frederic Chopin:
- Waltz in E Minor (Posthumous)
- Mazurka, Op. 6, No. 1
These rolls were hand-played by Dr. Slawomir Dobrzanski, a concert
pianist who is a member of the Music Department faculty here at Kansas
State University (KSU). He is also a graduate of the Chopin Academy
in Warsaw, Poland.
I have very much enjoyed working with Professor Dobrzanski. He became
interested in mechanical music when another friend demonstrated his
Ampico piano for him and his students. With the issuance of these
rolls, he feels a relationship to the famous roll artists of the past
such as Paderewski, Hoffman, Friedman, Moiseiwitsch, and Godowsky.
The Waltz in E Minor (Posthumous) has been recorded previously on
rolls, but the Mazurka, Op. 6, No. 1, has only been issued on rolls
for the Welte-Mignon and not on Duo-Art or Ampico rolls.
A roll project such as this could not be accomplished alone. Kudos
must be mentioned. In addition to Professor Dobrzanski's excellent
playing, there is the roll editor, Robbie Rhodes. Yes, Robbie not
only knows traditional jazz piano, he knows the classics too! Thank
you Robbie! I must also give credit to Bob Billings of Sierra Music
Rolls who perforated the rolls, and to the Keyboard Division of the
KSU Music Department for their help and interest in this project.

A discount is given for purchasing both the Chopin rolls by Professor
Dobrzanski.
