Unknown MAPSA and Lador Musical Box Tunes
By Don Caine

Hi Sarah, In regard to your MMD posting about "Unknown Music Box Tunes":

Please note that, even though you have seen an identical music box
(cabinet) on eBay, the melody of the musical mechanism inside that box
could very well be a different from the one in your box.

MAP SA: Was started in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland in 1952. The company
name MAPSA is an acronym (a word formed from the initial letters of a
name or names) for the partnership between Charles Monti, Rmy Aubry
and Frdric Paillard and the words Socit Anonyme (the French
equivalent of Corporation).

MAPSA was known for the manufacture of small, mostly 18 note, musical
mechanisms and finished products which they sold world wide to the
makers of other musical boxes and musical novelty items. Most of
their sales were to European firms, mostly in Germany though Swisstone,
in the United States, was also one of their largest clients. They had
a tune library of about 1,000 tunes.

Lador, also in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland, was a family owned and
operated business for almost 100 years. It was founded in 1889 by
Adrien Lador who was followed by his son Fernand and his grandson
Robert until 1985 when the company was absorbed by Reuge SA. Lador
was also known as a manufacturer of small, mostly 18 note movements.

I don't have either MAPSA or Lador tune lists, but I may be able to
assist you in identifying the melody(s) by listening to them. Please
feel free to call me and I'll see what I can do to assist you.

Most sincerely,
