John Phillips, I have never met you in person, but based on your
recent post, I _know_ I would like you! I needed a good laugh after
today at work (only two more days to go before I join the ranks of
those looking for work) and you provided it. Thank You!
My "adopted grandfather," Leo Mellon, flew the airmail in biplanes and
he had some great stories to tell of his adventures. When I knew him
in his much later years he sure didn't look like a pilot, but then
there was something about the "cut of his jib" that it didn't take much
imagination to see him in a leather jacket with a scarf around his
neck, and a leather helmet with goggles. Hmm, when I was growing up we
had such a helmet that we played with, now I wonder if it had been his?
Sadly, long gone.
Funny, the memories these mechanical instruments bring us!
