Band Organs at DeBence Antique Music World
By Scotty Greene
This may sound like a commercial, but the DeBence Museum is doing the
best we can to keep band organs (and other mechanical music devices)
available to the public. We have worked with two different amusement
parks over the past 13 years. One of the organs is still in use, the
other has been parked.
As a museum we are one of the few places where we still play band
organs for the public. We have six that are played for people taking
our tours. Most private collections cannot be readily heard without
special arrangement, and when the owner dies they are auctioned and
go who knows where.
Each year we give free tours to all the area fourth grade students,
and host about 3000 visitors from all over the world. We are a 501c3
non-profit museum that came into existence to keep a wide variety of
machines available for the public to see and hear for as long as our
organization exists.
Most small museums get only about 7% of their budget covered by paid
admissions. With support of our members and other interested persons
we will continue into the future. If you want to help this effort
visit our web site and become a member.
