Piano Rolls in France
By Douglas Heffer

Dear Mr. Phillips, I know very well about the Welte in Hotel Lutetia,
it was a customer of mine who sold it to the hotel. I restored the
instrument rather many years ago and in these days it worked very well.

The instrument was bought by someone managing the hotel at the time,
but later on he left the hotel and no-one was interested in the
instrument. There was some kind of a "civil war" in the hotel
management and that was the end of the story!

One will hardly find any rolls at the Paris flea market today. I live
in Montmartre -- just 20 minutes to walk down there -- and I haven't
seen interesting rolls there for the last 20 years.

Best regards from Paris,
Douglas Heffer
