I have a Weber Duo-Art Pianola, Ser. No. 73949 (1914); it also says
Style 59, which might just be the piano design and nothing to do with
the player. The upper player mechanism is made by Aeolian Company.
The unit has never been has never been repaired, or even touched.
The exhauster pump pulleys, which were made of 'pot metal', have
expanded and have broken. I need the specs for the pulleys so I can
buy some. I have read the MMD Archives on this subject and no one
mentions the dimensions of the pulleys. I have read that by using
new V-belts the number of grooves for belts can be reduced.
Right now the motor drives double grooves on the larger diameter of
the intermediate pulley, and the four smaller diameter grooves on the
same pulley drive the pulley on the main air pump shaft.
The pulley for the main camshaft of the pump has a 3/4" bore with
10-1/2" diameter pulley sheaves. The intermediate pulley is 9-1/2
diameter and it is bored to 1-1/4" diameter.
I imagine it would be prohibitively expensive to have them made, and
most manufacturers require a run of 25. Unfortunately we do not have
a Graingers up here, in Nova Scotia.
Any help would be appreciated because, unless this pulley problem is
solved there is no point in proceeding with any other repairs.
Yours sincerely,
John Ross
