Band Organs in Las Vegas Independence Day Parade
By Rob Goodale
Okay, let's suppose you own a band organ or a calliope. You would like
to get your machine to a rally but they don't fit into your schedule
and you would prefer to do something out West. Now suppose you want
a summer vacation and you are thinking that Las Vegas could be a great
destination. Well, here's your chance to do both!
On Independence Day, July 4th, Las Vegas hosts a fantastic annual
patriotic parade with close to 40,000 people and media attending. Last
year we participated and it was a terrific experience. The organizers
are a great people who make sure everything goes off as planned.
This is not a "parade through the desert" -- this event takes place in
the beautiful suburban district of Summerlin surrounded by trees and
golf courses. If this sounds like fun to you the application deadline
is May 10th so you must apply immediately. They will _not_ accept
applications a minute past 5:00 P.M. on May 10th (you can always
withdraw later).
This could be a great display of mechanical music before a crowd of
thousands. If enough people decide to participate then I will work
the phones and see if I can locate a venue to display the machines
after the parade. (There are several large park events which include
fireworks in the evening.) I will only pursue such an option if enough
people commit although this could potentially morph into a mini-rally.
Again, the deadline is May 10th at 5:00 P.M.
