Who Built the Wurlitzer Music Roll Perforators
By Doug Hershberger
A statement recently published [130329 MMDigest] says something like,
"Perforator No. 12 restored by Doug Hershberger..." This is false.
I had little if anything to do with rebuilding the Wurlitzer perforating
machine (No. 12) which I operate at the Herschell Museum. That work
was done by skilled and dedicated men with mechanical expertise many
years ago (circa. 1996).
I have been the exclusive operator of that and the other Wurlitzer
machines for about the last five years, doing some maintenance on
perforator No. 12 and discovering much more about its operation than
was previously understood.
The operation of the Knowlton & Beach paper slitter (an English Company
with a Rochester operation, apparently) has been refined with some
updates and the master stencil printer-punch has been first operated
during these last few years by me with help from several other talented
men.
