Hello, My wife and I have a full-size upright player piano (Autopiano,
#105710, New York) that we brought over to Germany in 2001. The upper
mechanism was restored by someone else in the early 1980s, the power
mechanism (pedal, bellows, etc.) by me in the 1980s, new hammers hung
as well, and re-strung (I was feeling well off that year!).
Since then I've forgotten most everything I knew about repair and
maintenance. I suppose that finding someone here in Germany that knows
much about these is almost impossible, but some day I imagine I'll have
to do a little maintenance. Guess I could start with vacuuming the 80
pickup tubes -- still the original cloth-covered lead, I believe --
(sorry I've forgotten the terminology) and check for dead notes. Then
take a look at Tempo regulation, which still works reasonably well, but
is not perfect.
With all that in mind, I thought I'd look for some on-line contacts.
Sincerely,
Kevin Pfeiffer
