Hello. I am also interested in the making of a new comb and suggest
that Michael E. Schaffter has a look at eBay item 130712910322: Ground
Flat Stock. This is oil-hardenable, high-grade steel from a company
called "Tool And Bolt Ltd."
Michael gives no sizes for the comb he has. I only quote this item
because I need to replace a broken comb, with ten teeth missing from a
72-tooth comb.
My biggest problem is determining the scale. I have checked the
original comb, and the scale seems to make no sense, having double and
sometimes quadruple identical notes in some places. The comb seems to
be original and not to have been altered in any way. If anyone has any
information on the scale for this box, I would be very grateful for it.
Also if anyone has any information on this type of box, it would be
very helpful.
The box contains the following information: Etouffoirs en acier soit a
spiraux. Fabrique de Geneve. Six airs with drum and bells.
It has a 72-tooth comb, with six teeth for three bells. The drum and
teeth section are missing, but the pins in the drum are present and
look to be unused.
The box contains the following tunes:
1. Auf wiedersehen
2. Huguenots
3. Cheer Up Sam
4. Das Versprechen
5. Lucrezia Borgia
6. In the Strand
If anyone has any MIDI files for the above tunes, that would help, as I
may be able to work backwards from the tunes. Also pictures of the
drum section and teeth would be useful.

[ The French phrases quoted above are of no help in identifying your
[ box, since they are standard phrases on cylinder boxes. What would
[ be of more use would be the maker of the box, and that can be
[ determined from the design of the box's tune sheet, with the aid of
[ H.A.V. Bulleid's reference book, "Musical Box Tune Sheets." If you
[ would send a picture of the tune sheet to the MMD Editor account
[ (editor-1201@mmdigest.com), I could help you there, since I have
[ Bulleid's book.
