Plastic Film for Perforated Music Rolls
By Thomas Sterk

I've seen several discussions about plastic paper for music rolls last
days. My search for an alternative to regular paper began at the end
of 2011.

After a business trip to Asia I found several suppliers who can make
a suitable film for our application. The film should not shrink or
tear and be waterproof. There are some suitable films which have
these properties, but some of these are hard to cut or punch.

After receiving some samples from different factories I've found
a suitable plastic film for me. It's not too smooth for punching
different layers and has the same thickness as regular paper. I did
experiments with cutting and my punches & dies do not waste much more
than regular paper.

The problem with most suppliers is you have to order an amount being
enough for the rest of your life, or they can only supply rolls with
a unmanageable diameter.

The material I'm using is much more expensive than regular paper, but
who cares if it does the job very well!

I'm supplying now a plastic film which is perfect for our application,
in widths of 110 and 140 mm. It's slit with very high accuracy and
comes in manageable lengths of 200 meters (diameter circa 18 cm).

Depending on the length of your rolls you can punch 6 to 8 music rolls
from one roll of plastic paper. The prices are the following:

  110 mm: 55.79 euros per roll or 219.01 euros for a box of 4 rolls;
140 mm: 70.25 euros per roll or 276.86 euros for a box of 4 rolls.

Prices are exclusive of VAT and shipment. For more information:

Don't hesitate to contact me for further questions or other widths.
