This post is a follow-up to a post I made a few years ago [080602
MMDigest] concerning the sale of a Francois Nicole Rigid Notation
Musical box in Great Britain. In a sale a few years ago a Francois
Nicole in excellent condition, with a four comb format in an original
case likewise in very good condition, wildly exceeded its pre-sale
estimate of 300 to 500 UK pounds and sold for a record breaking sum
of 62,100 pounds, inclusive of the buyer's premium. That was a world
record price for a cylinder musical box. At the time I commented about
the unique circumstances about that sale and stated that I thought the
price was an aberration.
At an auction sale held today, also in Great Britain, another Francois
Nicole Rigid Notation Musical Box was sold for approximately 14,400
pounds, inclusive of buyer's premium. That Francois Nicole musical
box in a circa 1820 clock base needs some restoration but [the price]
reflects a pricing in line with recent historical valuation trends.
