Dear MMDers, Here is the information for the movie at my web site
of the book "Japanese Automata", but before telling it, I would say
thanks to Mr. Matthew Caulfield: Caulfield-san, I appreciate very
much your comment, "this book will be a must-read," to my book,
"Japanese Automata."
Finally, the karakuri movie at my web site has become working --
a tumbling doll performance and the doll without costume can be watched
in the movie.
The tumbling doll seems to have been already invented in the beginning
of 18th century as the performance at the famous karakuri show, Takeda
Karakuri Theater, in Osaka, Japan. Then the doll seems to become a toy
for wealthy people and perhaps the doll was brought to Europe by Dutch
people. The tumbling doll was imitated, Westernized, improved and
manufactured by German toy makers. By the way, Robert-Houdin bought
a tumbling doll from a French toy maker. If you are interested in this
story, please read the book "Two Odd Volumes on Magic and Automata."
I shall be happy if MMDers will visit my site at the following address:
http://Japaneseautomata.web.fc2.com/
http://japaneseautomata.web.fc2.com/00/movies/index.html
I and my daughter have a plan to show the movie of the connected
tumbling dolls and their structure at the site in the end of February.
Best,
Murakami Kazuo, Japan
