Hi! Here at http://www.r.lpmm.ca/MMD/A58411/index.html are the
pictures of an old 2-airs small music box from an unknown maker.
Serial number A58411 is stamped on the bed plate.
It has indeed suffered a "run." I think it could be possible to repair
it. The spring is in good condition, the Geneva stop is also in good
condition. The comb is missing a tooth. I removed it to protect it
as much as possible.
As I understand it, the problem is related to the first wheel and its
support that is part from the governor assembly. As you can see on the
pictures:
(1) The first wheel cannot be inserted securely within the support;
(2) I don't know how to squeeze(!) the two arms of that support;
(3) The adjustment screw under the bedplate is to add (remove) some
pressure at the governor assembly (I think);
(4) The consequence is that there is control from the flywheel at the
spring wheel.
(5) Maybe the first wheel is too old or has been damaged from
the run.
Can you suggest some solutions? I know this box isn't worth much, so
I would like to try some repairs.
Thanks to all of you for reading,
