Barrel Piano by A. De Mascio of Brussels
By Jonathan Holmes
Hi All, I now have in my workshop a large Belgian clockwork coin
operated barrel cafe piano owned by a friend, James Dundon. It is over
seven feet tall. It has an oak case with a dummy keyboard. The front
has mirrors and has been made to look like a roll operated piano! It
once had a pair of lights on its front which are missing.
The piano has an iron frame and has three sections. The bass section
has an unknown control on it. The middle section has normal notes,
the top section is a separate section where the pins in the barrel will
provide a marimba or mandolin effect.
There are a number of fittings missing inside so I wonder if anybody
has a similar piano made by this firm. It was made in Brussels by
Maison A. de Mascio.
I would be grateful to be in contact with another owner of this make of
instrument so I can ascertain what is and is not missing. I have some
photographs of the front and inside that I can send for comparison.
Any help would be welcome.
