Junghans Carriage Clock With Musical Box Alarm
By Jim Quashnock
I recently spent a lot of time and effort to recreate a replacement
face for a Junghans carriage clock which has a music box in its base
as the alarm mechanism.
The face that came with the clock was all there, just terribly
yellow, brittle, and stained. Having totally cleaned the mechanism
and replating the nickel case, it didn't make much sense putting this
terrible looking face back in.
The original face was scanned and then days spent in PhotoShop cleaning
it up. The cardstock face is 3-5/32" wide and 3-15/16" tall. The
actual dial (numbers) are in a circle that is 2-1/2" diameter. There
are 3 holes in the face. The upper is 3/4" from the center and is for
the second hand. The bottom is 25/32" from the center and is for the
alarm.
I have printed it on photographic paper and then laminated it. The
final thickness is very close to the original (within a few .001").
If anyone out there is in need of a new face, let me know and I'll
send you some at very reasonable cost.
